In continuing our tradition of as many doctor's
appoitments in the shortest amount of time possible, we had two more
appoitments today. After our last meeting with Mr. Bob the helmet guy, he suggested we put another helmet on Cooper to continue the progress. At this point, whats one more helmet? Before we could make the mold, we had to visit the pediatric surgeon that had us referred to the helmet doctor in the first place. So this morning we loaded up and headed to see Dr. T. Immediately he noticed a new bump that had formed on his forehead. This bump was quite odd because the placement of his flat spot should not have affected the right side of his forehead. So he is referring us to the Herman Hospital downtown for a CAT scan and 3D digital reading of his skull. The CAT scan is pretty scary for us because there is a chance they will end up putting him under. If you know Cooper, there is no way he can be still for 45 minutes. Dr. T's concern is that Cooper has
craniosynostosis. This is where the plates of his skull fuse together and don't allow for more growth.
If this is the case, we will immediately schedule a surgery to correct the situation. We are trying to wait until the CAT scan results come back, but needles to say we are pretty freaked out. After that, we headed to see Mr. Bob and get every ones helmets adjusted. The good news is that Caleb only has two more weeks in his helmet!!! Cooper is done in his first helmet for now because if surgery is performed the mold for the second band will have to be taken post-surgical. Here is a pic of Cooper with his headsicle and helmet. The headsicle is used every visit to determine the progress since the first molding. One headsicle down, one to go! Keep us in your prayers. We are waiting for insurance to approve the CAT scan and then will schedule the appoitment!
